About Me

A Special Piece of Jewelry

My beloved grandfather passed away 23 years ago. I was only 12 years old when this special person in my life died. However, this man taught me so many things during the few years I spent with him. My grandfather was also an accomplished guitarist. A few months ago, I visited the home he shared with my grandmother. While searching through his old belongings, I found a guitar pick. To keep the memory of my grandfather alive, I want to make a necklace out of this special token from my grandfather’s past. On this blog, you will discover how to make jewelry items from guitar picks.

For Hippie Chicks Only: Five Far-Out And Fashionable Ideas For Your Halloween Party

by Priscilla Gray

Ladies, have you have decided to get dressed as a hippie for your next Halloween celebration? If so, there are many ways to get it together for a groovy '60s and '70s look. For inspiration, here are five fashionable clothing ideas for a hippie Halloween:

1. Bell Bottom Jeans

If you are aiming for a casual and relaxed hippie look, this is a must-have. Scout your local retro clothing boutique for a blast from the past. If you are having a tough time finding authentic bell bottoms, you can choose slightly flared boot-cut jeans. Choose a faded or distressed pair.

To give your jeans a high-fashion hippie look, top it off with hippie fringed leg warmers. You'll find these in a faux suede material and these may be worn over your jeans, slightly below the knee.

2. Fringed Vest or Jacket

This was the choice of many hippie chicks back in the day. Get that festival look with a beaded suede jacket or vest at most any vintage clothing boutique. Choose beige or dark brown.

3. Tie-Dyed Psychedelic T-Shirt

There are many vintage stores that sell tied-dyed tees in patterns that proclaim your hippie attitude. Choose from spirals, marble, pastels or bold colors. There's also Rasta and reggae, '60s rock bands in tie-dyed fashion, hippie bus art, and tie-dyed peace symbols.

Sublimation tie-dye is a fashionable style, utilizing a chemical process that fuses the dye with polymer and converts it into gas. Sublimation tie-dyed shirts are typically made from moisture-wicking polyester fabric. These shirts are typically lightweight, making them a good choice for wearing underneath a suede jacket or vest. Colors usually look vibrant, and because the ink is infused directly into the fabric, the material tends to have a soft feel.

4. Bohemian-style (BOHO) Festival Tunic

Festival tunics were the rage back in the hippie days. Options are limitless for your hippie BOHO tunic. Whether it be solid colors or patterns, lace or fringe, let your inner flower child shine through. If the weather is warm, choose a sheer fabric with flowing sleeves. For chilly weather, a '60s-style tunic sweater would be ideal.

5. Hippie Head Gear

Be sure to top off your hippie fashion with a floppy festival hat or a groovy headband. A floppy hat works well with tunics or with casual tees. Choose a suede floppy festival-style hat, with or without beaded trim. For an added touch, add a fake flower or daisy on the side of the hat.

If you would prefer a hippie headband for a casual look, you have options. Flower Power headbands, beaded and fringed headbands, tie-dyed head wraps and braided leather with feathers and tassels are good choices. Look for these styles at your fashion retro boutique. For more information, contact local professionals like LizEva Fashion.
