About Me

A Special Piece of Jewelry

My beloved grandfather passed away 23 years ago. I was only 12 years old when this special person in my life died. However, this man taught me so many things during the few years I spent with him. My grandfather was also an accomplished guitarist. A few months ago, I visited the home he shared with my grandmother. While searching through his old belongings, I found a guitar pick. To keep the memory of my grandfather alive, I want to make a necklace out of this special token from my grandfather’s past. On this blog, you will discover how to make jewelry items from guitar picks.

Women's Black Tuxedo Jackets: How to Create a Casual Style

by Priscilla Gray

Ah, the tux. It's the centerpiece of men's formal attire. Women's black tuxedo jackets aren't exactly like their male counterparts. Yes, you can wear them for a dressed-up event. But, you don't necessarily have to. Dressing down your tux top is a simple way to stay stylish without looking like everyone else. Taking your jacket from a black-tie affair to a dinner out at the local café with friends is a snap with some basic planning and accessorizing. How can you style this staple piece and create a more casual look?

Picking Pants

Pairing your jacket with equally dressy pants won't exactly get you a dressed-down style. Instead, go for a more casual angle with jeans. That doesn't mean you pull a pair of ratty, old hole-filled jeans out of your bottom drawer and toss them on with a tux top. Opt for a more refined pick, and choose dark-wash skinny jeans. The dark shade of the jean material will create more of a monochromatic look with your black tuxedo jacket.

Using Shirt Smarts

You have several different options when it comes to what type of shirt you choose. Shirt options depend on where you're wearing your jacket. If you're going out dancing with friends or on a special date-night with your spouse, you can add an extra flare with a sequined tank or a sheer blouse. For a more romantic look, pair the jacket with a slim-fitting bustier type of top or a silky camisole. Let's say you are going completely casual and heading out for an evening of bowling with friends or just going to a movie—try a fitted t-shirt or a knit turtleneck (in the cold-weather months).

Selecting Shoes

Don't forget about your feet. There are plenty of footwear options, depending on the look you want to achieve. For a sleek style, pick a pair of basic black heels. In the summer, add a pair of strappy, dark-colored leather sandals to the ensemble. When winter strikes, you can keep yourself warm while still bringing on the style with knee-high black leather boots (either with a heel or not).

You've seen women's black tuxedo jackets as part of formal outfits. You like the look but don't have a black-tie event scheduled in the immediate future. That's okay. You can still wear the jacket, leaving the tux pants at home. Pair your top with a few key pieces and accessorize with a cute pair of shoes. Now you've got a stylish outfit that's still on the casual side.
