About Me

A Special Piece of Jewelry

My beloved grandfather passed away 23 years ago. I was only 12 years old when this special person in my life died. However, this man taught me so many things during the few years I spent with him. My grandfather was also an accomplished guitarist. A few months ago, I visited the home he shared with my grandmother. While searching through his old belongings, I found a guitar pick. To keep the memory of my grandfather alive, I want to make a necklace out of this special token from my grandfather’s past. On this blog, you will discover how to make jewelry items from guitar picks.

3 Reasons To Go To The Laundromat Even When You Have A Washer And Dryer At Home

by Priscilla Gray

If you have a washer and dryer at your home, you likely use it often. To remain healthy and keep your clothing from getting full of odors and germs with time, it's advised to wash them often, sometimes even a few times a week. You may use your washer and dryer on an almost daily basis, but there may still be times that it's best to go to a laundromat. Here are 3 reasons to use a laundromat even if your own appliances are operating just fine.

Large item cleaning

Bulky, large, or heavy clothing or other materials may be best washed at a laundromat rather than using your home appliance. Bulky items can cause your washer's drum to go off-balance and can require several dry cycles to achieve the level of dryness you need. This can wear out your units more quickly, especially if you wash heavier items regularly. Here are some items you will want to wash at the laundromat rather than at home:

  • sleeping bags/mats
  • curtains/couch or chair covers
  • rugs
  • down blankets
  • tablecloths

Choose a laundromat that features a large commercial washer to clean these bulky items in. The small investment in change you make when washing these things can help your washer and dryer last longer at home.

Work clothing

Work clothing, especially clothing used in the agricultural or mechanic sectors, can be full of chemicals, stains, and odors that you don't want affecting other clothing. These clothes can also leave behind strong odors or debris in your washer or dryer which can make clothing or other items cleaned afterwards dirtier or even ruined. Stack up work clothing including jeans, coveralls, shirts, and outdoor gear, next to the door so you can do a weekly trip to the laundromat to keep these items fresh for the next week.

Backed up washing

When you come home from vacation, have company over, or have a whole week off from work or school with your family, you will quickly notice the washing back up into several loads. Rather than spend a few days sorting and doing laundry at home, make a larger dent in this never-ending cycle by taking a bulk of your washing and placing it in many washing machines at the laundromat instead for quicker results in this chore.

Just because you have a washer and dryer at home doesn't mean your local laundromat can't come to some good use for you now and then. When you have many loads of laundry to do or have a bulky load, then think of your laundromat first.
